Pokemon was awesome back in the day. All the way up to Silver/Gold. After that it got lame. Now when I see it (by flipping through channels on the tv) it looks horrible. Although the first season of the show was ok.

I think this thread might have inspired me to go dig out my GBC from the closet... >.< Would give me something to do while selling crap in Kamadan haha.

Pokemon has fallen into the same pit as Zelda and Mario. Nintendo doesn't have other things like Microsoft and Sony do to help with their finances so they have to milk everything they can out of their franchises. Zelda and Mario deliver good games every once in a while (like the gap between Ocarina of Time to Twilight Princess) and even though I never got newer game boys so I could play the new Pokemon, I suspect that it went the same way the other two big franchises went.

The DS games are the best, imho... Have the most stuff to do, and the Underground just rocks. The games are some awesome RPGs, but good GOD the show sucks.

Show was bad in the first place, but now that it's following the games, it's worse, as are all the movies.

I always found the games to be quite fun, and a useful little distraction, although mystery dungeon got boring, picked it up again, finished the last little bit, and got bored again

Remember around 8 years ago now with the cards, trading them around, then I got sent some from an aunt in america which had different ones, which made me popular for a while. Had some in Japanese as well. Still got a massive stack of them

Funny coincidence I just started to play pokemon again earlier and then i came on here and found this thread. I think they are a good bunch of games but gold/silver will allways be my favourite ones too bad i lost my silver, ah well.

Apparently I do not fully understand how these games work. What the heck do DV and IV stand for? Google returned a value calculator, but it doesn't really explain what these concepts mean, nor their impact.

Pokemon is good, the best ones were gold/silver/crystal, but then it ruined itself with ruby/sapphire/emerald. Diamond/pearl are good ^^, but the pokemon gets ugly with each new game (try searching Purugly on google....).

The story may sound a little kiddy sometimes, but it's nothing compared to the anime, I mean why would you cry because your pokemon has found love???? The anime just get dumber with time...

And it's not just for kids, I mean, it can be hard sometimes...XD.

You learn this stuff playing competitively =P
Basically you know how the game tells you how all pokemon are unique?
This is because they have hidden numbers that affect how they gain stats.
In RBY and G/S/C (red blue yellow, and gold silver crystal)
these are the only things that affect your stats.
IV's are individual Values.
When you encounter a pokemon a random number generator, creates numbers from 1-31,
Each stat has a number thus
The max stat for speed is 31
Max stat for attack power is 31
max stat for special power is 31
and so on for the other stats.

If you generate a 4 in speed lets say, your not reaching the cap, thus your pokemon is weak in speed.
If you generate the max stat (31) however, your pokemon fortunately has the max value for that stat.
IV's Do not ever change, and are fortunately or unfortunately set with your pokemon as soon as you encounter it.

When the orginal cast got fired for cheaper sound-alikes is when the tv show died for me, I guess I'll just have to watch re runs to hear the real james crazy laugh... /sigh

And I've gotten one game out of every generation as well. Red, Gold, Ruby, Leafgreen and now diamond, I have an EV trained party as well :P Oh when will I grow up.....(just got PBR for wii, been so busy battling..) I have a battle on youtube, just search user artiedow, Oh god am I sad?

Anyhow, the Gold/Silver/Crystal series were definitely my favourite. Loved how they implemented the day/night cycle far better than they did in the next generation.

Haven't played Diamond and Pearl, as I don't have a DS, yet my Nintendogs/Kirby Dreamland/Animal Crossing obsessed little sister does. In fact, she's lost I think... Three DS's and currently owns one now. Spoiled, much?

Did they bring back the day/night cycle in those two, which had the same thing which had pokemon appearing during different times of the day?

Pokemon? is that the real life RPG game when you get a little kid in a yellow T-shirt, give him a tazer and he is pikachu and then you get a kid in a blue T-shirt and give her a super-soaker and let them battle it out? MWUHAHhahahahahaha. They don't fit neatly into little red balls though. j/k I never did that water and electricity should not mix etc etc.

oh yeah i remember what drew my attention to the show in the first place.

When the show was first aired in japan, in a particular episode where the effects were so crazy and the level of excitement so high resulted in kids having epileptic seizures all over the country at the same time.

pokemon is electronic, mind control warfare at its BEST.
